Cervical Dystonia

What is the best treatment for cervical dystonia?

Cervical dystonia is characterized by involuntary muscle contractions in the neck that cause abnormal movements and postures of the neck and head. In some cases, these abnormal contractions may be sustained or continuous; in others, they may be present as spasms that can resemble tremor.

There is no consensus on the most effective treatment of cervical dystonia, but recent peer-reviewed research suggests dry needling may be useful in facilitating a rapid reduction in disability and severity (Chardra, et. al), and restore movement and range of motion.

Botulinum toxin (botox) continues to be the first choice treatment for most types of dysonia, however there are limitations to this injection.

Dry needling has been used widely to relieve muscle spasms and restore their length, giving the patient relief from the pain and involuntary movement of the spasm.

She made me feel very comfortable and the treatment has helped so quickly. I’ve only been twice but I am already feeling so much better.
